House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries (N.Y.) is set to give remarks Thursday morning as Republicans race to craft legislation to advance President Trump’s domestic agenda before the end of the month.
Republicans in the lower chamber on Wednesday advanced a bill supporting Trump’s sweeping immigration priorities, including raising fees on those seeking refuge in the U.S. while boosting resources to detain and deport a record number of migrants. Democrats have railed against the administration’s immigration crackdown in recent days following the mistaken deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia.
Jeffries earlier this week said it was fair for U.S. voters to question whether the president was “actually fit” to be commander in chief. On Wednesday, the minority leader also teased a new blueprint from Democrats to counter executive actions taken by Trump in his first 100 days in office.
Thursday morning’s press conference is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. EDT.
