Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick is testifying Wednesday morning before the Senate Appropriations Committee about the department’s fiscal 2026 budget request — including investments in President Trump’s “America First” agenda.
The hearing comes as the Trump administration defends the president’s sweeping tariffs on nearly all foreign trading partners — while pushing for more trade deals — and amid a legal battle over whether he has the authority to implement the import taxes. Trump’s plan to double steel and aluminum tariffs went into effect early Wednesday.
The event is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. EDT.
