Dr. Phil embedded with ICE ahead of LA clashes

Dr. Phil McGraw was in Los Angeles with a television crew covering the immigration enforcement raids in the area that sparked widespread protests across the city over the weekend.

McGraw, a longtime talk show host and television personality, had exclusive access to Homeland Security officials and recorded an exclusive interview with Tom Homan, President Trump’s border czar, last week ahead of the raids in Southern California.

CNN first reported McGraw’s presence in LA.

On Monday, McGraw’s “Merit Street Media” sent a press release to media outlets promoting the interview with Homan during which it said the immigration leader would “share how strategic enforcement, under his leadership, led to historic reductions in illegal border crossings.”

The Department of Homeland Security did not respond to a request for comment on McGraw’s team being granted access to government officials ahead of the raids.

The ICE missions have sparked intense protest across Los Angeles, some of which have turned violent and sparked Trump to direct National Guard troops to quell the demonstrations.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) announced he would sue the Trump administration for deploying the National Guard without his approval, while the president has said he supports the idea of Homan ordering the arrest of Newsom following the governor’s dare of Homan to do so.
