(NEXSTAR) — Rite Aid, the retail pharmacy chain that filed for its second bankruptcy in as many years in May, has identified more than 300 locations for closure.
Last week, court filings showed more than 110 Rite Aid stores across 12 states had been proposed as a fourth round of closures. Combined with previous rounds outlined in court documents, Rite Aid has identified 360 locations for closure as of early June.
The exact timeline of when these stores will close hasn’t been released. Local officials in several impacted communities have, however, shared notices it has received from the retailer regarding impending closures.
In Bakersfield, California, for example, a Rite Aid identified among the hundreds set to close will shutter by July 1, Nexstar’s KGET reports. WARN notices filed with the State of New York show closures are scheduled to begin on June 4 for several Rite Aid stores in the state, though it’s unclear whether that would be the store’s final day, or if it’s when the wind-down process will begin.
Rite Aid previously confirmed June 4 would be the last day returns or exchanges would be processed or accepted at its stores. Customers have until June 5 to use any Rite Aid gift cards, coupons, or rewards.

Store closures are pending court approval and could face objections from property owners.
Last month, nearly all of Rite Aid’s 1,240 stores were listed for sale as part of the bankruptcy process. Similar retail pharmacy chains may, however, be taking over those storefronts. As part of a May bidding process, CVS agreed to acquire and operate 64 Rite Aid stores in Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. Specific details on this process, which is subject to final approval, have not been released.
Walgreens, meanwhile, reached an agreement with Rite Aid to acquire prescription files from some of its pharmacy locations across nine states.
What if my Rite Aid is on the list?
Rite Aid previously said stores would remain open as they work with customers to transfer their prescriptions elsewhere.
Pharmacies poised to take on Rite Aid customers say they’re prepared to help during the transition.
“We’re well-positioned to serve our existing customers and patients, as well as those who may be transitioning to us from Rite Aid and are excited to introduce them to our best-in-class front store and pharmacy offerings, upon the closings of the transactions,” CVS said in a statement shared with Nexstar. “We’re working closely with Rite Aid on plans to ensure that the transition will be seamless for patients and customers and access to pharmacy care is not interrupted.”
Walgreens shared a similar sentiment, saying it looks “forward to providing Rite Aid’s customers with greater access to a wide range of trusted pharmacy and healthcare services.”
If your pharmacy is closing soon, E. Michael Murphy, an assistant professor of clinical pharmacy at The Ohio State University, encourages being proactive and asking your pharmacist where your prescriptions are being sent and whether that pharmacy has your insurance and medication history. While speaking with Nexstar, he also recommended that those impacted ask for a 90-day supply or mail-order option for prescriptions if transportation is a concern.
