Live updates: Conservative holdouts dig in as key panel meets on Trump megabill

The House Budget Committee is charging toward a key vote Friday on the GOP bill filled with President Trump’s priorities — even as a group of hardline conservatives threatens to block it.

The Budget Committee is the next stop for the 1,116-page bill, dubbed the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act.” The panel combined portions of the megabill advanced over the past two weeks by various committees, including measures regarding Medicaid, taxes and food aid.

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) on Thursday said the panel would meet and predicted it would advance the bill.

But the measure is on thin ice.

Reps. Ralph Norman (R-S.C.) and Chip Roy (R-Texas) said they intend to vote “no,” which, along with the absence of Rep. Brandon Gill (R-Texas) for the birth of his child, is enough to sink the bill in committee. Other conservatives on the panel also expressed reservations.

The meeting is slated to kick off at 9 a.m.
