Elon Musk appeared to accuse President Trump of “ingratitude” in a post on X Thursday, after the president suggested the billionaire’s criticism of the “big, beautiful bill” was self-interested.
President Trump was asked about Musk’s criticism during a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz at the White House.
Trump said Musk seemed to miss being in the White House, and was upset about Republicans rolling back Biden-era EV incentives. Musk responded on X, saying Trump would have lost the election without him.
The tit-for-tat comes after Trump on Wednesday night instituted a 12-nation U.S. travel ban.
The Supreme Court issued six opinions Thursday morning as it barrels toward the end of its term. Among them, it unanimously revived a straight woman’s “reverse discrimination” case against her former employer, lowering the legal hurdle for white and straight employees to bring such lawsuits. It also tossed out Mexico’s lawsuit against the U.S. gun industry.
On Capitol Hill, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) continues to defend the House’s “big, beautiful bill” against flak from Musk and others. Johnson told Bloomberg TV that he and Musk had texted Wednesday night and planned to talk on Thursday.
But the bill is also in trouble in the Senate, with outspoken opposition from enough senators to potentially hurt its chances for passage before July 4.
