Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell will give his semiannual testimony before the Senate Banking Committee on Wednesday morning, as President Trump ramps up criticism over the central bank’s decision not to lower interest rates.
Powell, who faced questioning before a House panel Tuesday, has maintained that market volatility, uncertainty around Trump’s tariff agenda and conflict in the Middle East led the Fed to keep rates steady. The president has hammered him in recent months to lower the rates — citing positive job numbers and decreases in inflation — and even threatened to remove him from his position.
The hearing is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. EDT.
