First lady Melania Trump visited with patients at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C., Thursday, decorating rocks and asking kids about their favorite hobbies.
The first lady took part in craft activities with the children and met privately with heart and kidney patients and their families, according to the White House. Trump also stopped by the Bunny Mellon Healing Garden, a space named after Rachel “Bunny” Mellon, a friend of former first lady Jacqueline Kennedy.
Trump at one point asked a group of kids seated around a table what they liked to do as they decorated rocks. One child said they played football, another said soccer and a third said golf. The first lady asked another child what kind of music they like.
During the visit, the first lady gave the patients gift bags containing blankets and teddy bears.
The first lady’s visit to the children’s hospital came ahead of the Fourth of July holiday.
President Trump and the first lady are scheduled to attend a military family picnic at the White House and watch Independence Day fireworks Friday before heading to the president’s New Jersey property for the remainder of the weekend.
