CNN anchor Pamela Brown reminisced on Sunday about her time attending a summer camp where 27 campers and counselors died as a result of intense flooding there over the weekend.
“It’s surreal coming back here,” Brown said while reporting from the site of the tragedy for the network, calling it a “magical place,” and recalling the “anticipation” she and other young children felt before attending.
“I’m overwhelmed with emotions, and I’m overwhelmed with memories,” she said. “That river was the source of so much joy and fun for us. And to think that same river is the source of so much devastation, it’s hard to wrap my head around.”
Camp Mystic in a statement said 27 of its campers and counselors died in the catastrophic flooding Kerr County, where, as of Monday, 10 campers from the camp and one counselor were still unaccounted for.
“So much innocence has been lost,” Brown said. “And you just can’t help but think about them and just hope that more are found alive.”
