House GOP leaders will speak to reporters Tuesday morning following their early meeting, as the race to avert a government shutdown is in full force.
Lawmakers have until Sept. 30 to avoid a lapse in government funding. Republicans and Democrats alike have pointed the finger to the other side to ensure if a shutdown occurs that they are not to blame.
Their remarks also come as Capitol Hill faces pressure amid the House Oversight Committee’s probe of files related to late disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein. Speculation is rising that more information around the convicted sex offender could soon be made public, and Rep. Thomas Massie’s (R-Ky.) discharge petition is poised to gain enough signatures to force a vote on the matter.
The press conference is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. EDT.
