Watch live: Democratic lawmakers hold press conference on redistricting reform

Democratic lawmakers are set to reintroduce the Redistricting Reform Act on Thursday afternoon as states across the U.S. weigh plans to redraw district lines ahead of the 2026 midterms.

Reps. Katherine Clark (Mass.) and Pete Aguilar (Calif.), the House Democratic whip and caucus chair, respectively, will lead a press conference. Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.) and Sen. Alex Padilla will also be in attendance. The previous version of the legislation sought to ban partisan gerrymandering and ensure compliance with the 1965 Voting Rights Act.

The latest push comes after Texas Republicans moved to redraw maps that would give the GOP an opportunity to pick up five additional seats in next year’s election. The decision led other states to consider similar measures, most notably California Democrats, as they seek to block the Republicans’ advantage.

The event is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. EDT.
