Live updates: Trump to outline his global vision at UN General Assembly

President Trump will bring his “America First” agenda to the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday morning, addressing the global body for the first time in his second term in remarks described by his press secretary as “major speech touting the renewal of American strength around the world.”

His remarks come as he’s spent months trying to find a path to peace in wars between Ukraine and Russia, and Israel and Hamas.

On Monday, press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Trump will hold bilateral meetings with U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, as well as leaders from Argentina and the European Union. He also plans to hold a multilateral meeting with Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Turkey and Pakistan, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan.

In Arizona on Tuesday, a special election to fill the 7th Congressional District seat once filled by late Rep. Raúl Grijalva (D-Ariz.) could give Democrats one more vote in the House.

Congress has one week to avert a shutdown when it runs out of funding on Oct. 1. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) will head to the White House later this week for discussions.
