House Republican unveils bid for Wisconsin governor

Wisconsin Rep. Tom Tiffany (R) has unveiled a bid to be his state’s governor, aiming to succeed current Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers (D).

“I’m Tom Tiffany, and I’m running for governor because I love our state,” Tiffany said in a video posted to the social platform X Tuesday. “I see where we are headed, and I know we can do better. You know we can do better.”

“I will freeze property taxes, protect our farmland from communist China and I’ll preserve our Wisconsin values, just like my mom does with her pickles,” Tiffany added.

Evers announced in July he will not try for another term in office, making space for a competitive election in one of the most closely watched battleground states.

The Wisconsin governor said in a video previously posted on X that his time in the role has been “the honor of my life” and that he expected he would secure another term as governor if he ran. However, he also said he loves being a husband, father and grandfather even more than being in his current role.

President Trump won Wisconsin by under than a percentage point in last year’s presidential election, a notable clinch of one of the key swing states that helped him secure his current term.

Back in 2023, Tiffany opted against a bid in his state’s Senate race versus Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.).

“After talking with my family, I have decided to run for reelection in Wisconsin’s Seventh District. While Tammy Baldwin is vulnerable due to her record as a rubber stamp for President Biden, I can make the greatest impact continuing to serve the great people of Wisconsin in the House of Representatives,” Tiffany said at the time.
