A driver rammed their car into the FBI security gate at the Pittsburgh bureau early Wednesday and then fled the scene, according to officials.
The suspect, later identified as Donald Henson, threw an American flag over the gate after the impact around 2:40 a.m. EDT and then ran away on foot, an official told The Hill’s sister network NewsNation.
He is believed to unarmed and “there seems to be some mental health concerns,” FBI public affairs officer Bradford Arick said.
“This incident is considered a targeted attack against the FBI,” the agency said in a statement posted online. “No FBI personnel were injured.”
Christopher Giordano, assistant special agent in charge at the FBI in Pittsburgh, told reporters that the car had writing on one of the windows, but did not elaborate. He added that the bureau was familiar with Henson, The Associated Press reported.
“He did come here to the FBI field office a few weeks ago to make a complaint that didn’t make a whole lot of sense,” the agent added.
Pittsburgh police told NewsNation that the FBI is leading the ongoing investigation into the incident. The suspect has not been apprehended.
