Conservative activist Charlie Kirk, the co-founder of Turning Point USA, appeared to be struck by a gun shot Wednesday while appearing at an event at Utah Valley University.
Kirk’s condition was not immediately clear.
The Utah-based Desert News said an alert from the university said a suspect was in custody. Videos circulating on social media appeared to show Kirk speaking to a crowd before being apparently struck in the neck.
The Utah Valley University Police confirmed to The Hill that shots had been fired. The FBI said they were monitoring the situation.
“We are closely monitoring reports of the tragic shooting involving Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University,” FBI Director Kash Patel wrote on X.
“Our thoughts are with Charlie, his loved ones, and everyone affected. Agents will be on the scene quickly and the FBI stands in full support of the ongoing response and investigation.”
