Harris: Running in 2028 ‘not my focus at all’

Former Vice President Harris said that she isn’t focused on the 2028 presidential campaign when pressed on if he could considering running for the White House again.

Harris was asked during an appearance on MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show” on Monday night about the next election, following a wide-ranging conversation about President Trump and former President Biden, among other topics.

“That’s not my focus right now. That’s not my focus at all, it really isn’t,” Harris said.

The former vice president announced in July that she would not run for governor of California, putting an end to speculation that she would seek her state’s top executive role after her loss to Trump. At the time, she said will get more active in helping Democrats in the midterm cycle.

When asked if that announcement meant she wouldn’t run for any office again, Harris said that was the decision before her at the time.

“That was the decision before me. And I made the decision not to run for governor of California. By the way, there are a lot of great candidates running,” she told MSNBC.

Her decision about the California gubernatorial race has fueled speculation that she’s planning to mount another bid for the White House in 2028.

Harris’s memoir “107 days” was released on Tuesday and outlines her campaign against Trump and Biden’s decision to run for a second presidential term before dropping out. Harris has said itr was reckless for Biden to run again at his age, and has said she should have spoken out against the decision.

“So, when I write this, it’s because I realize that I have and had a certain responsibility that I should have followed through on … and so, when I talk about the recklessness, as much as anything, I’m talking about myself,” Harris said Monday during the Maddow appearance.
