The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Monday again warned residents of Tehran to evacuate the Iranian capital amid its military campaign against Iran’s nuclear program, which on Saturday was joined by U.S. strikes on three sites.
“Dear citizens of Tehran, in the coming days the Israeli army will continue its attacks against military targets in the Tehran region,” the IDF wrote in social media posts Monday, as translated from Iran’s official language Farsi. “To ensure your personal safety, we ask you to stay away from weapons production facilities, military headquarters, and security institutions affiliated with the regime.”
The United States entered the conflict Saturday with bombs directed at Iran’s nuclear sites. Since then, Israel and Iran have continued to exchange strikes.
The latest IDF warning follows its calls last week for thousands of civilians in specific parts of Tehran to flee, after Israel had eliminated Iran’s defense air systems, leaving areas vulnerable to attack.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the time stressed Israel’s continued policy of warning people who may be impacted in the crossfire.
“In contrast to the criminal Iranian regime … we tell the civilians in Tehran: ‘Evacuate’ and we are taking action,” he said while speaking at an Israel Air Force (IAF) base.
Tehran, which is Iran’s most populous city, is home to nearly 10 million people.
