Jay Cutler begins 4-day sentence in Tennessee jail

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — Jay Cutler, the former NFL quarterback, has begun serving his four-day jail sentence after pleading guilty to driving under the influence.

Last October, Cutler was arrested in Franklin, Tenn., after police responded to a minor traffic collision, in which they say he rear-ended another vehicle. He allegedly attempted to flee the scene after offering the other driver $2,000 not to call the police, documents state.

Cutler was observed with bloodshot eyes and was slurring his words, according to court documents. He allegedly initially told police he did not consume any alcohol, but then said he had “a little bit” when questioned further. He was charged with DUI and possession of a handgun while under the influence.

In late August, Cutler took a plea deal that would have resulted in the gun charge being dropped upon the weapon’s forfeiture. However, according to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, on Monday at 9:40 a.m., Cutler was booked into jail on charges of driving under the influence, violation of implied consent law, failure to exercise due care, and possession of a handgun while under the influence.

As part of his guilty plea, Cutler was sentenced to four days in jail.

In addition to the jail sentence, Cutler’s license was revoked. He will be on supervised probation for a year, which will include random and regular drug tests, and has been ordered to pay a $350 fine.

Cutler was married to reality star Kristin Cavallari before their divorce in 2022. He was a quarterback for the Chicago Bears, Denver Broncos, and Miami Dolphins during his 12-year career. He retired from the NFL in 2017.
