Former Vice President Kamala Harris did not hold back in blasting the Trump administration while at a writers’ summit in Los Angeles on Monday.
At the “Day of Unreasonable Conversation” event held at The Getty Center, Harris talked about the political moment within the broader scale of history.
“We are living history right now, and you all storytellers are living this,” Harris said in a video shared on the social media platform X. “You’re not passive observers, you know that. You’re living it, and I would ask you that all the emotions that we are feeling — give those emotions, give that experience to those people that you are writing about and writing for.”
She added that “there is so much about this moment that is trying to make people feel like they’ve lost their minds, when in fact, these mothaf—as are crazy!”
At this point, the audience broke into laughs and applause, as Harris started to laugh.
The event was co-chaired by actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt, screenwriter Greg Berlanti and Simpson Street producing partners Kerry Washington and Pilar Savone.
“In this moment, when the algorithm really only feeds us what we already believe and fractured media silos us into polarized corners, content matters more than ever,” Washington said at the start of the one-day event, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Outside the event, Harris has been touring the country to promote her new book, “107 Days,” about her short campaign leading up to the 2024 general election.
Ahead of the book’s launch, excerpts showed some of the inner workings between Harris and her then-boss, former President Biden. In one excerpt published in The Atlantic, Harris described how “at 81, Joe got tired.” Biden eventually dropped out of the race and endorsed Harris.
Democrats expressed frustration about the book before and after it was published. California Democratic strategist Garry South said the excerpts “show pretty clearly that she came out with arms flailing and guns blazing, blaming everyone but herself for her loss.”
