Cable news channel NewsNation notched a ratings win over CNN and MSNBC on Sunday with its coverage of the memorial service for the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
The network said it beat out MSNBC and CNN for six consecutive hours Sunday, averaging more than 600,000 viewers during its broadcast and peaking just before 4 p.m. with nearly 2 million viewers.
NewsNation reported it was the highest-rated Sunday since the channel’s launch and represented a nearly 1,000 percent increase in viewership compared to its regular monthly Sunday average in total viewers.
Fox News led all cable news channels in viewership during the service, with 5.2 million viewers who tuned in to watch the event. CNN averaged 342,000 viewers during the memorial, while MSNBC earned fewer than 300,000.
NewsNation noted Sunday’s ratings achievement followed a previous Saturday’s ratings win over CNN and MSNBC in prime time.
At Kirk’s memorial, leading Republican lawmakers and activists, including President Trump and Vice President Vance, eulogized the slain commentator and activist.
Trump spoke just after Kirk’s widow, Erika, who during her remarks said she had forgiven the man who allegedly fired the bullet that killed her husband and vowed to carry out Kirk’s legacy of conservative activism.
NewsNation is a cable news channel launched in 2021 by Nexstar Media Group, which also owns The Hill.
