NewsNation’s Leland Vittert chronicles growing up with autism in new book

NewsNation anchor Leland Vittert will publish a new book this week detailing his childhood upbringing with Autism and his journey to a career in national news.

“Born Lucky: A Dedicated Father, A Grateful Son, and My Journey with Autism,” is slated to be published on Tuesday and chronicles “an intimate look into Leland and his father’s inspiring journey,” according to publisher Harper Horizon.

“Leland lays bare his experiences of the crushing bullying he received during middle and high school, the sting of rejection continuing into college, and his ultimate transformation into an esteemed journalist,” a description for the book reads.

Vittert earlier this year went public about his struggles with autism as a child, revealing he did not speak until he was three years old and opening up about his struggles with social cues, communication and behavioral norms at a young age.

“This book is about giving hope to tens of millions of parents whose kids are struggling every day – not just with autism and the spectrum, but ADHD, learning disabilities, anxiety, bullying and the difficulties of growing up,” the TV news anchor said. “You or your kid don’t have to be defined by a diagnosis – love and dedication can change your child’s life. I’ve never talked about this before, but it’s time to say thank you to my dad.”

Vittert, a former anchor and war correspondent for Fox News, joined NewsNation in 2021 and earlier this year was named host of the primetime show “On Balance with Leland Vittert” airing during the cable news channel’s 9 p.m. hour.

NewsNation is owned by Nexstar Media Group, which also owns The Hill.
