Trump after Comey indictment: ‘I hope there are others’

President Trump said Friday he hopes there will be other officials who face charges in addition to former FBI Director James Comey, who was indicted a day earlier.

Trump was asked as he departed the White House for the Ryder Cup in New York who would be next on his “list” to face retribution.

“It’s not a list, but I think there will be others. They’re corrupt. These were corrupt radical left Democrats,” Trump said.

“They weaponized the Justice Department like nobody in history. What they’ve done is terrible. And so I hope – frankly I hope there are others. Because you can’t let this happen to a country,” he added.

Trump said the Comey case was about justice, not revenge. But he reiterated that others should face consequences.

“It’s about justice…it’s also about the fact that you can’t let this go on. They are sick, radical left people and they can’t get away with it,” Trump said. “And Comey was one of the people. He wasn’t the biggest. But he was a dirty cop.”

A federal grand jury indicted Comey on Thursday on charges of making a false statement as well as another for obstruction of a congressional proceeding in connection with testimony he gave before the Senate in 2020.

Trump has long called for charges against Comey, whom he blames for the investigation into his campaign’s ties to Russia in the 2016 election — something he has repeatedly decried as a “witch hunt” and a “hoax.”

Last Saturday, Trump appeared to explicitly pressure his attorney general to pursue cases against Comey, Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and New York Attorney General Letitia James.

Trump has in the past accused former President Obama of treason and has suggested other Obama administration officials should face consequences over the Russia investigation.
