Trump spoke to Thailand, Cambodia leaders after ceasefire

President Trump on Monday said that he spoke to the prime ministers of Thailand and Cambodia after the two nations agreed to a ceasefire ending five days of fighting in the region.

“Just spoke to the Acting Prime Minister of Thailand and Prime Minister of Cambodia. I am pleased to announce that, after the involvement of President Donald J. Trump, both Countries have reached a CEASEFIRE and PEACE. Congratulations to all!” Trump said on Truth Social.

Trump had previously said that if the two countries did not stop fighting, they would not get a trade deal with the U.S.

“I have instructed my Trade Team to restart negotiations on Trade,” Trump said. “I have now ended many Wars in just six months — I am proud to be the President of PEACE!”

Thailand’s acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet reached the ceasefire during talks in Malaysia and Trump administration envoys also participated, Bloomberg reported.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio earlier on Monday applauded the truce in fighting.

“The United States applauds the ceasefire declaration between Cambodia and Thailand announced today in Kuala Lumpur. @POTUS and I remain committed to ending this conflict,” Rubio said on X.

The clash between the nation Asian nations began on Thursday, with Cambodia accusing Thailand of using cluster munitions, highly controversial weapons that have multiple bomblets that explode over a large area. Thailand then accused Cambodia of intentionally targeting civilians.
