House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) will speak with reporters Wednesday afternoon as Democrats and Republicans continue to see no movement toward reopening the government — as the lapse in funding stretches into a fourth week.
Democrats have not bucked on their demands that a stopgap funding bill include extensions to Affordable Care Act subsidies set to expire at the end of the year. Republicans, who are eyeing a new proposal to extend previous funding levels to January, have argued that moving through a “clean” continuing resolution is the best path.
Jeffries has blasted GOP lawmakers in both chambers for refusing to negotiate and criticized President Trump for being “unserious” by posting AI-generated videos amid the stalemate.
The press conference is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. EDT.
