Watch live: US commemorates 9/11 victims at Ground Zero in NYC

The U.S. will honor the victims of Sept. 11, 2001, during an annual remembrance ceremony Thursday morning at Ground Zero in New York City.

According to the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, 2,977 people died during the terrorist attacks — including 2,753 in New York City, 184 at the Pentagon and 40 on Flight 93 that crashed in Pennsylvania.

Vice President Vance was originally slated to attend the 24th anniversary event with his wife, but plans changed after conservative activist Charlie Kirk was shot and killed Wednesday. Vance, who considered Kirk a close friend, will now travel to Salt Lake City, Utah, to pay his respects to the family, a source familiar told The Hill.

President Trump, who is attending the Pentagon ceremony, will travel to New York City later Thursday. He is expected to attend a Yankees game.

The New York ceremony is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. EDT.
